Best Homemade Dog Ice cream Recipes + tips!

As the sunny days have taken over London along with the high temperatures, we thought we’d share with you some ice cream recipes for you dog to enjoy, and so you can finally eat your gelato without them giving you the puppy eyes… All the recipes are easy and quick to make, so don’t fret if you’re not a cooking pro. All you need is a blender and a freezer!

BEFORE YOU START

It’s important to note that some ingredients could be dangerous for your dog if you have paid attention to their label! For instance peanut butter needs to be xylitol free. Xylitol can be fatal to dogs and can be found in regular peanut butter. You can avoid it by buying organic peanut butter.

Some dogs are also lactose intolerant, so avoid using too much diary, or use it in very small quantities.

PEANUT BUTTER & BANANA DOG ICE CREAM

Ingredients:

  • 2 ripe bananas, peeled
  • 300g plain yogurt, low-fat
  • 1 cup peanut butter, organic

Instructions:

  1. Add bananas, peanut butter, and yogurt to a blender.
  2. Blend until thoroughly mixed.
  3. Pour into ice cube tray and freeze.

STRAWBERRY & BANANA DOG ICE CREAM

Ingredients:

  • 10 fresh strawberries , chopped
  • 1 medium, ripe banana
  • 280g natural plain yogurt (low fat, non fat)

Instructions:

  1. Mash the strawberries using a potato masher (or a fork if you don’t have one). You want very small pieces of fruit so your dog can swallow it easily. Add in the banana and continue to mash
  2. Stir in the yogurt and mix all ingredients until well-combined.
  3. Pour the mixture into freezer safe air-tight containers or ice cube trays and then freeze for a minimum of 4 hours but preferably overnight.

PEANUT BUTTER & JELLY DOG ICE CREAM

Ingredients:

  • 1 small, ripe banana
  • 120g organic peanut butter
  • 280g natural plain yogurt (low fat, non fat)
  • 5 strawberries, pureed

Instructions:

  1. Mash the banana well with a fork until smooth and no lumps. Stir in the peanut butter, followed by the yogurt.
  2. Mix all ingredients until well-combined.
  3. Puree the strawberries (with a fork or a potato masher) and fold them into peanut butter mix to create a swirl.
  4. Pour the mixture into freezer safe air-tight containers or ice cube trays and then freeze for a minimum of 4 hours but preferably overnight.
